January 12, 2006Amateur Wins Ute Mountain Casino Blackjack Tournament
A major casino blackjack tournament was held at Colorado’s Ute Mountain Casino-Hotel & Resort last week. Participants played for money, prizes, and to win a seat at the World Series of Casino Blackjack tournament, which will be held in Las Vegas.
Many casino blackjack stars were present at the Ute Mountain tournament. One of those casino blackjack superstars was Regina “BJ Sweetie" Guzior, who is one of the best female players in the country. Guzior is blind, so an aide reads her cards for her.
Guzior said that the format used at the casino blackjack tournament was somewhat foreign to her. “I hadn’t played the format that Ute Mountain did in years. I have been used to playing a set number of hands during the round, but at Ute Mountain it was 21 minutes of play and then five final hands. It really made me re-think my strategy," said the champion.
Even though so many of the competitors were casino blackjack experts, the winner of the tournament was Scotty of Arizona, who is an amateur. Scotty, who is twenty- four, won a seat in the World Series of Casino Blackjack finals. One more casino blackjack tournament will be held at the Ute Mountain Casino-Hotel & Resort; the winner of that tournament will also win a seat in the World Series.
